The olive tree was already cultivated 6.000 years ago in the Mediterranean. Olive trees and olive oil are mentioned in Micenic tables (c.2.500 BCE), as well as in the Bible. c Some of our Olive trees in Tras-OS-Monts where this olive is derived  from date back to  1.000 - 2.000 years old and are still cultivated in the old traditional way. Statistics have shown that Mediterranean populations such as Portugal, Spain and Italy, have significantly lower rates of coronary heart disease (CHD) than that seen throughout the rest of the world. This observation was initially met with confusion, because the typical Mediterranean diet is as high in fat as the typical American diet and even higher in fat than the diets of other European populations.

Anti-Oxidant Components Olive oil is very high in vitamin E, but other than that, most of its antioxidant properties come from its phenolic components. Phenolic compounds such as flavonoids are widespread in many plant foods and influence the quality, palatability, and stability of foods by acting as flavourants, colourants, and antioxidants. When consumed, certain phenolic compounds are known to exhibit pharmacological effects on the body, such as anti-carcinogenic (anti-cancer), anti-inflammatory,anti-oxidant, anti-atherogenic effects etc.

How Much Fat Should You Eat?
It´s recommended to taking 2 tablespoons of olive oil daily to prevent heart disease. Olive oil has been known to suppress your hunger and increase energy. You can definitely drink a few tablespoons by it self to stave off hunger and have a better health.

Or you can do what the Portuguese and Mediterranean do, use it to dip bread and eat it that way. And it is even better if you have some Oxygen see salt and balsam vinniger to mix in to the Virgin Olive Oil. You can also put a few tablespoons in your breakfast cereal for extra energy. It's important to understand that dietary cholesterol isn't necessarily bad although it's best to limit the amount of cholesterol you eat if you have diabetes. The level of cholesterol in the bloodstream in terms of the type of fats that are in your diet is what's critical in determining your overall outlook on health rather than the amount of cholesterol you eat.

Our final words on this is that if there's one thing that I've learned about health and diet in all the years of working with foot boll and learning about food, health and what and how to eat. It is that "Quantity changes Quality". What that means is balance is key to health. No matter how good anything is for you, anything in excess will cause harm in the long run.
